InstaPill to build its second fully automated lyophilized (flash freeze) ODT facility in India, taking total capacity to 1.0 billion units a year

OCTOBER 13, 2026
InstaPill Private Limited (InstaPill) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for ~18 acres of land in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in India, where it will build a new greenfield manufacturing facility.

This new site will be among the largest ODT facilities in the world and will house capabilities to handle products including containment, and high potency molecules

The facility is built around InstaPill's oral lyophilizate technology, also known as freeze-drying, which produces orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs). These are tablets that dissolve on the tongue in seconds without water, which makes medicines easier to take for patients who struggle to swallow conventional tablets, including children, the elderly and patients in acute care. InstaPill today partners with innovator, large pharmaceutical and specialty companies across regulated markets, and the investment marks the next stage of its expansion as a contract development and manufacturing organization.

The new site will be fully automated and designed to international GMP standards, with a modular layout that allows capacity to be added in phases as the demand grows. It is initially planned for expansion up to 500 million ODT units a year, adding to the 500 million units a year at InstaPill's existing USFDA, EUGMP and UKMHRA approved flagship site in Bengaluru, India. The facility can produce lot sizes of different scale, supporting everything from clinical and launch quantities to large commercial campaigns. On commissioning (expected end 2028), InstaPill will rank among the largest lyophilization facilities anywhere in the world.

The design follows the fully automated, integrated model InstaPill runs today in Bengaluru, where a single line carries the product from solution preparation through filling, flash freezing, lyophilization and inspection to serialized packing, with electronic batch records throughout. The facility holds quality consistent at scale and simplifies the supply chain for partners.

The site is being designed to handle the full range of ODT products, including those that need containment, oncology and hormonal products, high-potency molecules and other compounds that cannot be made on shared lines, alongside conventional ODTs. Alongside manufacturing, the site will host a centre of excellence for drug delivery technologies, bringing formulation development, process engineering and scale-up together in one place so that partner programmes can move from development to commercial supply without a change of site.

The investment follows InstaPill's upcoming research and development laboratory at Abingdon Science Park in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. The UK laboratory gives partners bench-scale formulation and feasibility work, taste masking and in-process analytics close to innovators, extending in time to full analytical capability and small-scale clinical supply. Together the investments reflect InstaPill's vision of building manufacturing capabilities that are technology led, quality centric, scalable and ready for the evolving expectations of global regulated markets.
